CBD & DELTA 8

CBD & Delta-8: What Are The Key Differences

More and more we all hear about the benefits of CBD, but there is still a lot of confusion about what it is and who can benefit. One of the biggest misunderstandings is whether or not it is marijuana. It is not. There are two main varieties of the cannabis plant, Sativa and Indica, both containing over 100 chemical compounds called cannabinoids. These include cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Marijuana can be derived from Cannabis Sativa or Cannabis Indica, but hemp only comes from the Cannabis Sativa plant. There is very little of the chemical THC found in the hemp plant. This is the chemical responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis, however, it does contain a much higher concentration of cannabidiol (CBD) which does not have psychoactive effects. The majority of cannabidiol CBD is sourced from the hemp plant.

  • Slows Cell Death & Oxidative Stress

As you can see, CBD has many benefits and the list continues to grow. One of the reasons for the increasing popularity of CBD is its availability without the negative side effects of many traditional medications.

WHAT IS DELTA-8?
Delta-8 Tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly referred to as Delta-8 THC, has been around since 1965. It has only more recently increased in popularity due in part to its similar chemical make- up to Delta-9 THC, or what most refer to as “cannabis, weed, pot, or marijuana.” However, Delta-8 is derived from the hemp plant and although hemp is a strain of cannabis, it contains less than 0.3 percent Delta-9 THC, which is legal under federal law. Any variety containing more than this amount is generally referred to as cannabis. This being said, Delta-8 does contain THC though in very, very small amounts.

HOW DOES DELTA-8 WORK WITH MY BODY?
You might be surprised to learn that your body makes endocannabinoids via your Endocannabinoid System or ECS. All cannabinoids interact with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in your ECS. However, unlike CBD, Delta-8 interacts very similarly to Delta-9 forming bonds with these receptors in both your mind and body.

IS DELTA-8 LEGAL IN WISCONSIN?

Currently, most state laws address cannabis, marijuana, CBD, THC, and Delta-9 without addressing Delta-8. As mentioned, Delta-8 is derived from the hemp plant and not from cannabis and therefore is derived from a legal source.

WILL DELTA-8 SHOW UP IN A DRUG TEST?
Yes. While the concentration would depend upon the amount consumed and the length of time since last consumption, there is a good chance it would lead to failed drug testing.

IS CBD & DELTA-8 SAFE TO USE?
Yes. While it is recommended to start with a low dose and increase accordingly, both CBD and Delta-8 are safe. However, it is important to point out that not all CBD and Delta-8 products are created equally. Currently, the manufacturing of CBD and Delta-8 products are unregulated. There are no federal guidelines or consistent and enforced testing protocols.

HOW CAN I ENSURE WHATI AM USING IS SAFE?
With increased awareness, these products are increasingly becoming available everywhere. But not all are safe. You care about your health and about what you put into your body, so do we. At Lindgren Functional Medicine, we carry a range of both CBD and Delta-8 products of the highest quality. These products have been lab developed and overseen by Lindgren Functional Medicine to be able to offer a pure product free from chemicals and other unknown substances.
